Minivan Rearends Semi On I-95 Killing Mom and Toddler

According to the Florida Today newspaper, a Palm Bay mother and her 3-year-old child were killed early Friday morning, June 1, 2012, when their minivan slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer on a dark stretch of Interstate 95. The car accident occurred around 4:45 a.m. when their 2011 Toyota Sienna collided with a semi towing a disabled tractor-trailer. The deadly car accident occurred in the southbound lanes of I-95 just north of the Malabar Road exit.

Both the mom and the child were property restrained at the time of the accident. Although the investigtion is on-going and the immediate cause of the car accident is largely unknown, it is believed that the semi towing the tractor-trailer was traveling below the speed limit when the mother came upon them and this may have partially caused the car accident. Also, it is unknown at this time if weather played a role in causing this fatal car accident.
