Garbage Collector Killed Another Injured in Pedestrian Accident

According to the Florida Today newspaper, a garbage collector was killed and another was hurt on Thursday, September 15, 2011 when a car struck them both as they picked up trash in the Canaveral Groves, Florida area. Evidently, the two garbage collectors were carrying trash to their Waste Management truck around 7:30 a.m. when an eastbound Dodge sedan struck the two men. The impact was so severe that the front of the Dodge became lodged underneath the Waste Management truck after striking to two men. One of the garbage collectors, a 55 year old Cocoa, Florida man, died at the scene. The other, a 43 year old Cocoa, Florida man, sustained severe injuries. He was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida. The scene was apparently quite grisly as the deceased garbage collector was pinned between the car and the Waste Management truck.
